Boil water notice continues in Roundstone E-mail

The residents of Roundstone are the latest to be hit by Galway's water problems, with fears their supply has been contaminated with e-coli.

Routine water testing in the area showed traces of e-coli and coliform. A boil water notice was immediately brought into effect. As a result, members of the public affected by the notice must boil water intended for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.

This is the third boil water notice in Galway in recent months. Works to enhance the treatment process at Clarinbridge have been ongoing for the last number of weeks following detection of high levels of clostridium perfringens in the water supply.

A spokesperson for the HSE said that the Roundstone notice had been introduced as a precautionary measure and that no illnesses had been reported to them. It is unknown how long the boil notice is to remain in place.
