A leading charity shop operator has warned householders in Galway to be vigilant when leaving bags of unwanted clothing out for collection.

Enable Ireland Disability Services, who will start house to house collections of their trademark yellow and red donation bags in Galway over the next fortnight, have been made aware that bogus collectors are also operating in the area.

Mary Hynes, Retail Area Manager for Enable Ireland said, "Charities in Ireland continue to be challenged by organisations operating bogus collections, who appear to be operating for charitable purposes but are actually commercial enterprises.

"The people who donate to us do so because we are a charity that they know and because our services operate in their community. Every bag that is taken is a loss of revenue to us and hurts our ability to take action on disability."

Enable Ireland has urged people to look for Enable Ireland ID, registered charity number, landline phone number, organisation's logo on collection bags and vans and the ICSA Logo (Irish Charity Shops Association).
