Galway woman Una Black is to face sentencing this July, after pleading guilty to manslaughter prior to the beginning of her trial this week.

Twenty-six-year old Black admitted to the manslaughter of John Malone at Walter Macken Flats in December 2006, as the jury was being sworn in for her trial at the Central Criminal Court on Monday.

Ms Black, who is seven months pregnant, had been due to face trial in Galway last month but absconded to Wales the day before the hearing. She later returned home and was arrested in Rosslare, before being put forward for trial in Dublin.

John Malone was found slumped in a doorway at Walter Macken Flats by neighbours. He had received a number of stab wounds to the chest and subsequently died from his injuries.

Ms Black's guilty plea was accepted by the State and she will now remain in custody before sentencing on Monday 28 July.
