The 11th Baboró international arts festival for children, which takes place in the city next month, is jam-packed with dance, theatre, visual arts, literature events, puppetry and music and, for the first time ever, will include a ‘baby rave’.

ImageBaboró 2007 promises a creative feast for the senses, featuring magical Japanese gardens, enchanting rhythm and dance spectacles, theatre shows and a sensational baby rave. This flagship international festival is full of colour imagination and inspiration for children, their families, carers and teachers.

The Galway festival will see 16 award winning productions from Italy, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Scotland, England and from all over Ireland.

It will also see an increase in Irish premieres, public performances, after school shows and there will be a unique creative workshop for parents. All the events and programmes promise to stretch the imaginations of younger audiences while at the same time asking the important questions about the world we live in.

The newly introduced ‘baby rave’ is one of the main features of this year’s festival. This is a real rave, complete with live DJ, dance instructors, chill out zone, ambient lighting and projections for babies and children aged from zero to four and their parents who are in the groove.

This year’s festival line up includes Scottish dance company YDance with their production of Corryvreckan, Denmark’s Det Lilleturnéteater with their junkyard production of Kling Klang.

Baboró 2007 will also highlight and raise questions about the world in which we live through Jean Gino’s The Man Who Planted Trees, Tim Crouch’s Shopping For Shoes, Junges Ensemble Stuttgart’s Minor Matters and Galway’s own Blue Teapot Company will showcase Cups and Crowds.

There are over 120 children’s’ theatres throughout Denmark, and this year’s ‘spotlight on’ event features Denmark. The day will include performances, a presentation, discussions and a breakout session.

There will be a unique workshop for parents who would like to explore ideas, materials and fun activities to do with children that inspire creativity and imagination.

The festival will run from Monday 15 October and will run until Sunday 21 October. The box office will open on Thursday 20 September at The Town Hall Theatre on 091-569777 or log onto www.baboro.ie.
