To mark the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War, BBC2 produced a powerful drama series that consisted of eight short films, each ten minutes long. The Galway Alliance Against War will show these shorts on Saturday evening, 26 April, at 8.15pm in Richardson's, Eyre Square. The films were penned by award-winning Irish author Ronan Bennett and he will attend the GAAW event and speak about the dramas.
Each film, part thriller, part political drama, takes the viewer to worlds the news cameras couldn't reach - the UN, the Military, the Foreign Office and, of course, Iraq on the eve of war. The series came in for considerable praise and criticism when they were screened last month on BBC television. Admission is free, but people are advised to arrive early.
