A 36-year-old man accused of a stabbing incident that occurred in Rahoon last week is to appear in Galway District Court today. Billy McGinley of 118 Claremont Park was arrested early last Wednesday, after gardaí attended the scene of a serious assault at the same address.

Mr McGinley was subsequently charged with assault causing harm under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offence Against the Person Act at a special sitting of Derrynea District Court on Thursday morning.

Mr McGinley was remanded in custody and will appear before Galway District Court today, Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Galway Gardaí have conducted door to door enquiries into the incident and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

The victim, a man in his early thirties and believed to be from the Kinvara region, was left in a critical condition after the stabbing and was rushed to University Hospital Galway, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is said to be in a stable condition.
