John Behan, Aideen Barry, Laura Brennan, Sean Cotter, Ger Sweeney and Kenneth Webb are just some of the participants in this year's Claregalway Educate Together art auction on Sunday 21 October. Artists Margaret Irwin, Rosemary Carr, Kathleen Furey, and photographer Joe O'Shaughnessy are also among the 50 acclaimed artists contributing to the event. The proceeds will be shared between the artists and Claregalway Educate Together National School, with no additional fees and no hidden costs for the buyer. The art auction is central to vital and continuing fundraising efforts, aimed at providing the school with a permanent home. Pre-auction bids can be taken, and viewing is also now live on www.cetns.net/artauction/. A sister school to the Galway Educate Together NS in Newcastle, Claregalway was established in 2005 and has just received permanent recognition from the Department of Education. However, it is still housed in temporary accommodation. It is part of the fastest growing sector in Irish education, providing multi-denominational schooling to a number of nationalities, with plans for two more Educate Together schools in the Galway area next year. The ethos in Claregalway, under principal Terri Claffey, is based on welcoming, respecting and cherishing children of all ethical and religious traditions, all races, family and social backgrounds. Since September 2005, it has doubled its numbers, and pupils participate in a students' council and green committee. Viewing takes place from 12noon on Sunday 21 October in the Westwood Hotel, with sales starting at 4.30pm. Master of ceremonies will be Shane FitzGerald of FitzGerald Auctioneers. A selection of work is on display now until Saturday 20 October at the Design House, Barna. For more information, contact Terri at 091-798356 or Lorna on 087-2835909. |
