If you are not travelling to Prague or Brussels for a good, old-fashioned Christmas fair, why not go to St Patrick's Hall instead? The hall will become a hub of Christmas activity next Saturday, 1 December.

All sorts of Christmassy goodies and merry things can be bought at a variety of stalls. Munch on homemade cakes and flapjacks, enjoy a lunch of homemade soup, spin the wheel of fortune and rummage for a good bargain. Santa will even be making an appearance, so keep your eyes peeled. All funds raised will be used in the upkeep of Galway's iconic medieval building, St Nicholas' Collegiate Church.

The Christmas Fair will take place in St Patrick's School Hall, opposite the church from 10am to 2pm. The Rector the Reverend Patrick Towers explains, "The Annual Fair is one of the highlights of the fund-raising year for me. It is wonderful to see people setting up stalls and selling home made treats, Christmas crafts and paintings. Each year the fair brings us much appreciated funds for the yearly up-keep of St Nicholas.

"At this time of Advent and Christmas, the striking medieval church comes into its own and as well as inviting you all to the fair in St Patrick's School, we are also inviting you to come at 5pm to celebrate within the church when the choir, clergy and parishioners shall revive the ancient practice of a processional service of carols and readings for Advent. The service takes the form of a great procession from the west end of the church to the east. The church will be lit by candlelight and the choir will sing carols and motets of the traditional Advent season."
