The number of new buildings completed in Galway has dropped dramatically this year.

The latest figures show a 41 per cent drop in the number of new buildings completed from January until June this year compared to the same time last year.

The figures released by GeoDirectory show that 1,876 new buildings were completed in Galway in the first half of 2007.

That’s compared to 3,220 over the same period last year. The figures include commercial and residential buildings.

This brings the total number of buildings in Galway to 102,678 at the end
of June.

On a national level, GeoDirectory predicts healthy growth in the number of
new buildings that will be completed this year.

Dara Keogh, who is General Manager with GeoDirectory, predicts that over 80,000 new buildings will be completed nationwide by the end of the year.
