Over 3,000 Galway students will be on tenterhooks today as they await the results of their Leaving Certificate exams.
After a long two months, the 2007 Leaving Cert students will receive their results today from 9am in schools and online from 12noon at www.examinations.ie. The papers this year tested students, with some obviously finding the questions more gruelling. As always, there were a few surprises in the mainstream subject papers. Commenting on this year’s exam, Mr Paddy Lydon, Principal of the Coláiste Iognáid on Sea Road, said, “We were satisfied with the papers in the first week, with the English, Irish and Maths papers throwing up few surprises. Overall the papers have been well balanced and are providing a fair assessment of the students knowledge of the subjects.” “Higher Level Maths and Irish had sections that demanded and searched more for more from the stronger students, while the Home Economics paper was predictable but difficult as it tested the students entire knowledge and comprehension of the course,” added Mr Lydon. Park College Principal, Patricia Moloney, said the papers were well received at Park College. “However, there were a few surprises in the mainstream papers this year. We are looking forward to the results today and are hopeful that all of our 85 students got want they hoped.” This year’s exams were plagued, not by unfair and complicated papers, but by hot sunny days. The weather played a big part in the first days of the exams, with the temperatures soaring to between 21 and 26 degrees. |
