Galway Green Party Councillor Niall Ó Brolcháin has welcomed a package of Government funding aimed at tackling disadvantage among children and older people. In total, 11 projects in Galway have been approved for funding.

"169 projects across the country have received funding to improve and enhance school dining facilities and canteen equipment. The idea behind the funding is to support children's learning and development," explained Cllr O Brolchain.

"Anyone who has ever watched celebrity chef Jamie Oliver campaign for and deliver healthy food to school children will know the benefits that nutritious food can have on concentration levels, behaviour and overall health," he added.

"I also welcome the €99,552 allocated to Cope Crisis Housing Caring Support Ltd and the €96,500 allocated to the Solas Family Resource Centre. These agencies carry out invaluable work in our community." The funding is being allocated from the Dormant Accounts Fund and the RAPID leverage fund.
