€47m research income leaves NUIG fourth in class |

NUI, Galway has come fourth in its class in a list compiled of Ireland’s most research-intensive universities.
NUIG received €47 million in direct research income in 2006. However, University College Cork almost doubled that figure with a record €86.6 million generated by research income in the same year. As a result, UCC is top of its class in the area, followed by Trinity, UCD and NUIG.
Within the Institutes of Technology, GMIT has come fifth, with research income of €2.5 million for 2006. Limerick IT generated the least amount of research income in that year with almost €2 million while Waterford IT topped the class with €9.2 million.
