A spokesperson for Ballinasloe Horse Fair has denied reports that some of the events due to take place at the festival are in doubt over a lack of sponsorship and public support.

Reports had circulated last week that a number of items on this year's programme may not go ahead because of a lack of adequate financial backing.

However, according to Carmel Dooley of PR Works, with five weeks left until the start of the festival, preparations are well underway.

"As far as the committee is concerned, all energies are being directed at preparations for the festival. The festival this year will run from Saturday 4 October until Sunday 12 October and preparations are well underway," she said.

The Festival Office will be opening today at Dolan's Quik Pick building at the top of Dunlo Street in Ballinasloe (between Hayden's Hotel and Priority Meats), with the office being sponsored by the New Hayden's Square Town Centre Group.

Anyone looking for information on this year's festival is invited to call into the office, which will be open from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Saturday. The office will have extended opening hours nearer the start date. Alternatively, you can contact the office on 096-44793.
