Page 1 of 2 First up we will talk about a problem that seems to be on the increase in the last few years, a problem lots of pets now suffer from: excess weight. Excess weight Excess weight is largely caused by pets not getting enough exercise. On top of this, pets are getting too many snacks and a diet that is calorie rich. Overweight pets are more likely to suffer from heart and joint problems, diabetes and some cancers. If you think your pet is overweight, it is vital you go to your vet. On examination, she/he will offer you the best advice. However, unless you are willing to change for your pet’s sake, it is a waste of time, because it is you not your pet that has to have a change of attitude.
For a cat Your cat is in trouble if she/he cannot groom the base of her tail. However, bear in mind that this could be as a result of arthritis. For a dog If you rub your fingers along the rib cage of an overweight dog you will notice that they have moving fat. Solutions The solutions are easy: exercise and a proper diet. Chocolate Dogs and some cats love chocolate but it can be fatal to them. Not all dogs or cats will get sick, but it is vital to know the signs in case it does happen. Chocolate, as we know, comes from the beans of the cacao tree. A part of chocolate is a toxin called theobromine. There is also caffeine in chocolate but in smaller amounts. Theobromine effects the central nervous system, can increase blood pressure, is a stimulant, and can cause vomiting and nausea.
