A new course in mental health awareness is to take place in Galway next month. The three day course, facilitated by the National Learning Network, will take place in the Ardilaun Hotel, Galway on the 3, 4 and 18 October and will be delivered by Mr Shane Martin, a registered psychologist. The course aims to give participants an understanding of mental health issues and an appreciation of the realities of living with mental health difficulties. Mental Health Awareness is targeted at anyone working with people who experience mental health difficulties, including individuals working in education and training, voluntary organisations, community development, social work, welfare services, counselling, mental health organisations and the medical services.
The focus of the course is on different approaches to intervention and current models of treatment, the new developments in advocacy and recovery and the ethics and standards which apply in the area. The improvement of professional boundaries and ways of working in multi-disciplinary teams will also be considered. Participants gain FETAC Level 6 accreditation upon completion of the course and associated course work. Places are limited and the cost is €750 per participant, including all materials and lunch.
