"Opening Biolaser is such a blessing. Having a background in massage and training in neuro-muscular therapy, I could not see myself going down any other road. It is really wonderful to be involved with this great therapy. Seeing patients going out the door happy and a far cry away from when they first came in is really what its all about. There are many wonderful therapies out there for people, but I would hope that low intensity laser therapy and our Biolaser clinic will open up a new chapter for many suffering unnecessarily," she says. Gemma says the mission of the Galway clinic is to use the healing techniques of LILT to eliminate pain, obviate the need for medication, restore normal range of motion and improve the overall quality of life. The initial pain relief as a result of treatment varies from individual to individual. However, Gemma says, a recent clinical report on 151 consecutive cases found that 11 treatments were required. Patients do not need to restrict normal activity during the therapy period. Treatments are best done two to three times a week initially. Acute injuries respond more rapidly than chronic problems. And Gemma says patients will generally not need to continue treatment indefinitely. In very rare cases patients elect to have maintenance care, while migraine sufferers often do well with a monthly maintenance treatment. The success rates are also very impressive, according to Gemma. Mediteach BioFlex Professional system, she says, boasts a success rate of 75 to 100 per cent permanent relief in 90 per cent of patients. Although LILT isn't a cure for arthritis, Gemma says it does treat arthritis at a cellular level, helping to improve the condition rather than just masking the pain. After an initial round of 12 to 15 treatments, patients can see up to 100 per cent improvement that is long lasting, she says. More information on LILT is available at the Biolaser – Galway Laser Therapy Clinic website www.biolaser.ie. The clinic is situated at 98 Lower Salthill.
