Award-winning Galway interior design company La Maison Chic has commissioned an identical replica of a dress owned by Marie Antoinette especially for the fashionistas of Galway Race Week.
The dress, which will be made of the original Rubelli fabric used in the recent silver-screen adaptation of the ill-fated princess, will be auctioned for the humanitarian aid agency GOAL, at the GOAL summer ball, to be held on Friday 21 September at the Clayton Hotel. The dress will be modelled at the Galway Races on Monday 30 July at the first evening meeting and afterwards will be available for viewing during the remainder of race week at The Bold Art Gallery, Merchants Road, Galway. Sofia Coppola’s film about Marie Antoinette picked up the Academy for the best costume design, and when you see the fabrics it’s not hard to see why. The Venetian company Rubelli, whose history spans more than 150 years and which specialises in the creation of high-end fabrics for interior design was one of the fabric producers chosen by the costumer designer from Turin to create the costumes and sets for the film Marie Antoinette. For advance bidding on the dress or information on tickets for the GOAL charity ball, contact GOAL at 091-587 901. |
