Lymphoedema

Eat plenty of fresh healthy food so that your body is in optimum health. Cleaning up your diet may also reduce your body's toxic burden. Avoid processed food, eating organic when possible, and eliminate simple sugars. Get tested for heavy metal exposure (lead and mercury) and check for food intolerances and allergies. A healthy digestive system (especially the liver) is essential for a good working lymphatic system. A naturopath can recommend a programme of specific vitamins, herbs and homoeopathic remedies which can help reduce lymphodema alongside a cleansing and nourishing diet. Herbs that help the lymphatic fluid and allow it to flow more easily and cleanse the system itself may be recommended. Popular remedies include the herb dandelion leaf, burdock root and horse chestnut. It is essential however that a qualified naturopath is contacted before using herbal remedies as the wrong concoctions can cause toxicity and possibly worsen your condition.

Drink plenty of filtered water at body temperature (not cold). In some cases lymphatic drainage body massage may be recommended. Acupuncture is also effective at stimulating lymph flow and supporting all other bodily functions. If you think you are suffering from this condition, your first consultation should be with your general practitioner, who should decide which course of action would be most suitable for your condition.

Always consult your GP before starting any new regime or self treatment.
