Local heart charity Cro? is teaming up with the HSE West Community Nutrition and Dietetic Department to present a public talk on 'The Truth About Dietary Fats and Cholesterol' as part of its Community Cardiac Education programme. The event will take place on Wednesday 7 November at 8pm in the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort. On the evening, a community dietician will give an overview of the effects of dietary fat on cholesterol levels, and will discuss the current population goals for total fat intake. There will be a special emphasis on the sources of saturated and unsaturated fats as well as Omega three fatty acids. The speaker will give an expert update on the newer food products currently on the market claiming cholesterol reduction capabilities. "Saturated fats and trans fats are the main dietary determinants of cholesterol levels and raised cholesterol levels can greatly influence one's risk of coronary heart disease," says Cro? nurse, Irene Gibson, who encourages people to attend this important meeting. The meeting is especially relevant to heart patients and family members and admission is free of charge. |
