Galway based online youth charity SpunOut.ie has been shortlisted for a prestigious Eircom 'Golden Spider' national internet award. The Golden Spider Awards, commonly known as Ireland's internet oscars, honour outstanding achievements online and are considered a mark of excellence in web based business strategies. SpunOut.ie is an online initiative, combining an innovative platform for youth media, information, support and advocacy. The shortlisting comes just days after SpunOut.ie was selected as a European representative at the forthcoming third Global Knowledge Conference in Malaysia this December. The selection, which is part of a 'Global Young Social Entrepreneurs' competition, gives SpunOut.ie the opportunity to fly a flag for Ireland, and indeed Galway on the international stage. SpunOut.ie will have a chance to get seen and heard amongst the world's movers and shakers in the fields of information, computing and social change, including the Malaysian Prime Minister, the Secretary General of the United Nations and corporations such as Microsoft. The recent recognition adds to SpunOut.ie's Health Service Innovation Award and Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Award and is further proof of the Galway based charity's winning formula for empowering young people using web based media. According to SpunOut.ie spokesperson, Susan Quirke the team are delighted with the recent news. "It's given us a tremendous lift. It's great to get recognition at this level and we're hopeful it will allow us to tap into exciting opportunities that help make SpunOut.ie even better in the years ahead," she said. |
