If, like most people, motivation is a key factor in your fitness regime and you could do with a bit of a tone-up for the Christmas season, a new gym in Terryland could have the answer. Marie Madden reports Motivation is probably the number one factor in getting fit and 'sticking with it'. Set up by Rachel Boyle last June, Terryland Fitness aims to break the monotony of exercise and introduce people to fun, high-tempo exercise with visible results. Rachel initially got into exercise in California, where she became involved in track and field training. Through this introduction, she developed a love and enthusiasm for exercise and now strives to pass this on to her clients. Terryland Fitness combines energetic fat-blasting boot camps with body sculpting Pilates classes and one-on-one personal training, guaranteed to whip even the laziest butt into shape. Specialising in the areas of weight loss, fat loss, strength, sports performance and pre-natal fitness, the well-equipped fitness studio is centrally located in Terryland Retail Park with plenty of parking, so you can avoid stress and focus on your workout. One of the most popular classes at Terryland Fitness is the Body Balance class, which is new to Galway. This 60-minute class combines tai-chi, Pilates and yoga, and is for male and female participants of all ages and abilities. The class is set to beautiful music and finishes with relaxation to leave clients feeling energised and peaceful, particularly suitable for pregnant women. This great new class seeks to increase flexibility, tone, balance, core strength and de-stress the entire body for all over benefits. However, if you are looking for something a bit more hardcore, why not try the Ladies Bootcamp? This course incorporates two fat busting classes per week for fat loss and weight loss, with measurements taken each four weeks to keep you motivated. This holistic approach also involves nutritional advice and one-to-one advice, so you can get the most out of your effort, and with a flexible timetable of classes, you can exercise whenever is convenient for you. According to Rachel, the secret behind Terryland Fitness' success is the flexibility of membership and variety involved in the classes. Rather than committing to a 12-month membership, clients can sign up for four-week sessions to see if the studio is right for them. Despite most gyms offering introductory assessments, clients are usually left to exercise unattended after they join and many lack the willpower and motivation to continue on their own. However, Rachel believes in paying special attention to each of her clients and provided specific advice and encouragement where needed. "Because of the size of the classes here and the nature of the gym, the experience is much more personal. I would be on first name terms with most of the people in my classes and know what their goals are, so I can offer targeted advice, whether it is about exercise or nutrition. People really appreciate the extra attention and it does yield results," she says. Group training is also a great option and can be arranged for bridal parties, corporate groups, teenagers, husbands and wives, or any group of people who have similar goals. Group training is basically personal training for any group of two to eight people. If the group has a common goal, like running a race or toning up for a big event such a special party or holiday, training together can be very enjoyable and the motivation factor is huge, Rachel adds. With a wide range of options at affordable prices, Terryland Fitness is a welcome new addition to Galway's exercise scene.
