Page 1 of 2 Thousands of us join gyms every year with every intention of getting fit and toned. However, after the initial novelty wears off, often the motivation does too and the only reminder of those great intentions is a hefty direct debit. A new addition to Galway's fitness scene claims to have the answer: personal training in a 'Unique' environment. Marie Madden reports . The brainchild of South African natives Darin Claasen and Rory Connellan, Unique Fitness is situated in the Galway Lawn and Tennis Club on Threadneedle Road, Salthill. ![]() Personal trainers at the Galway Lawn Tennis Club,Darin Classen and Rory Connellan. According to the trainers, this one-on-one attention means that even the least motivated person can see results quickly through a high-tempo dynamic workout. Both Darin and Rory were trained at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa in Capetown, where personal training is extremely popular. With the benefits of exercise in the fight against obesity and heart disease now widely recognised, the people of Ireland are finally catching up in the fit race. "Personal training is catching on here because everyone is realising the importance of exercise, having a healthier lifestyle and ultimately living longer. "A personal trainer is there to motivate you and support you, making sure you follow a tailor-made programme on your quest to a healthier way of life. "Because Unique is not a public gym, you don't have to worry about membership fees, overcrowding, waiting for machines or feeling embarrassed. "At UPT, you get professional training, avoid injury and get the results you deserve. You will be surprised at the friendly atmosphere and non-intimidating environment that our studio has in comparison to the large commercial gyms," explains Darin. At Unique, all sessions take place is a spacious suite, complete with cardiovascular equipment, weights and open space for mixed exercise. "On your first visit, your trainer will discuss your specific goals and create a suitable work schedule to help you achieve them. "Boxing is combined with traditional keep-fit techniques, such as cross-training for a body toning, heart-rate raising workout. "One of the reasons that people are unsuccessful in achieving their goals at the gym is that they aim too high, too soon and often cause injury. "With personal training, each exercise is monitored and tailored to your weight and ability, thus avoiding any nasty surprises! "Whether your goal is weight loss, toning, sport specific, flexibility or general fitness and well being, personal training can help you reach it. |
