Muscular Dystrophy Ireland's (MDI) annual 'Have a Heart' awareness campaign was launched last week by TV3 Weatherman Martin King. The campaign will run until Valentine's Day, Wednesday, 14 February. Over 100,000 chocolates from Lily O'Brien's are currently available across SPAR and SPAR Express outlets nationwide. Small presentation boxes containing two heart shaped chocolates are retailing at €2 each between now and the end of February. MDI will receive 100 per cent of the proceeds from the chocolate sales. The campaign also gives SPAR customers the chance to enter a draw for a one-week apartment holiday for two people to Majorca in May 2007 including flights, kindly sponsored by Budget Travel. Joe Mooney, Director, MDI said, "We are delighted that SPAR have come on board again as our main sponsor this year. Last year's campaign was a major success, raising in excess of €100,000 and we aim to increase that figure in 2007. "With SPAR's support and that of Budget Travel, we hope to really increase the overall awareness of muscular dystrophy and achieve a greater national understanding of the condition. This is in addition to MDI staff, members and volunteers who will be out in force between now and Valentine's Day selling chocolates." Since its inception in 1972, Muscular Dystrophy Ireland has grown considerably and currently has a membership of over 552 families and individuals. The service provides to families the services of respite care, counselling, free phone, family support service, holidays, youth activities, information, and independent living and training opportunities. |
