"When body temperature drops, blood pressure goes up, thickening the blood and increasing the risk of stroke, heart attack and respiratory problems. Our goal with this information campaign is to help people stay warm and healthy in their own homes and reduce those risks. The campaign provides a wealth of information on keeping warm and a key message for the public is to be a good neighbour, be aware and check on your neighbours and older relatives. Do not leave it to others ? they may have left it to you."
People can access further information or order a pack on keeping warm and well by telephoning the Winter Information Line on 1850-241850. Packs will also be accessible online at www.hse.ie.
Key tips:
- Take steps to stay well ? get a flu jab;
- Eat and exercise sensibly and dress warmly;
- Keep warm and save money on your heating bills by improving your insulation, heating systems and being energy efficient;
- Ascertain if you qualify for grants and benefits to help you stay warm this winter. Apply now.
- Pick up a copy of the Stay Well, Stay Warm booklet for advice and information on grants, benefits and good health. Winter Information Line 1850 241850.
