Age Action is urging all community groups, clubs and older people's organisations to join in Ireland's largest celebration of ageing, by supporting one of the many events being staged in Galway during Positive Ageing Week. This year, for the first time, Galway has been chosen as a Positive Ageing Week city. As a result a weeklong calendar of events has been planned, including tea dances, a special film screening, a community arts exhibition in local nursing homes and a guided supermarket tour led by a nutritionist. "This is an opportunity for older people to enjoy themselves and for communities to recognise the contribution which older people have made, and continue to make, in their localities," said Carmel Sheridan of Age Action West. This year over 400 individual events are expected to take place across the country, along with cross border events with community and voluntary groups in Northern Ireland.
