The Enable Ireland store is a landmark on High Street and has been for many years. Staff from the Galway shop joined others from outlets throughout the West to celebrate 20 years of retail at a Christmas lunch in Sligo recently.

Speaking at the event, Enable Ireland CEO Fionnuala O'Donovan thanked the 55 volunteers and staff from the West and spoke of the impact of their voluntary effort on the work of Enable Ireland. Long serving volunteers came in for special mention. Mary Reck has been volunteering in the Enable Ireland High Street, Galway outlet for 14 years, beginning in 1993.

The 19 Enable Ireland shops in Ireland now generate over €1 million for the charity annually. Enable Ireland provides disability services for 3,300 children and adults nationwide. In Galway, the much-needed Hydrotherapy Pool at the Children's Services Centre on the Seamus Quirke Road in Newcastle is due for completion in November 2008. Another great addition to the centre is the new playground and in-ground trampoline. The playground is equipped to cater for both pre-school and school age children with physical and motor co-ordination difficulties.

Western Area Manager with Enable Ireland, Mary Hynes, said, 'This lunch was a wonderful opportunity for volunteers and staff from Enable Ireland throughout the West to get together, socialise and share achievements. It's important for us to acknowledge their contribution. With their support, we have seen many new developments in the West.'

She appealed to the public to continue donations of clothes, accessories, bric-a-brac and unwanted gifts to the Enable Ireland Galway Shop located at 23-24 High Street, Galway.
