Last year we reported on dogcatradio.com, the hugely successful online radio station playing strictly pet friendly sounds. Offline and off the coast of Florida, this success has been mirrored with the launch of Dog Island, a place where over 2,500 dogs reside ‘enjoying a natural, healthy and happy life, free from the stress and hardship associated with daily life among humans’.

Dog Island promises an utopian retreat where you can send your four-legged friend. It is set across a cluster of islands and offers fundamental services, such as Health & Fitness Boot Camp Dog Training Center, Family Building Mentoring Center and an Injury and Trauma Recovery Center.

According to their website, the island is the brainchild of some ardent dogologists, who are attempting to create a new free range canine society where animals can be truly social. Already, their research has led to some alarming conclusions.

Dogologist Huland Niles says he has been placing microphones in the caves on the island and the dogs ‘are beginning to play with the sounds they are able to create’.

This playing together has resulted in the supposedly soothing dogology album, which is now available to buy. It contains a montage of dogs barking and is about as soothing as a kango hammer contest.

Add to this the fact that, according to the site, ‘your dog may never want to leave the island’ and you’d be forced to beg the question: ‘Is it the dogs or the dogologists who are really barking?’

Wisegeeks

Blessed are the geeks for they shall inherit the earth! If information is power, then the geek is the human overlord, with their craniums crammed to capacity with the juicy fruits of the tree of knowledge.

The lesser-mortalled amongst us may not have random access to so much information, but now we do have online access, thanks to one website which answers any number of trivial requests.

Next time someone asks you what the humane way to euthanise a fish is, what the advantages of glass shelving are, or what is antidisestablishmentarianism, you can give an all knowing smirk, retire to your local internet emporium and find the answer in moments.

Your newfound geekiness might have some downsides, i.e. expect derision from your trendy friends and revulsion from the opposite sex, but it’s for a greater cause. After all, who would you like to be, Bill Gates or Paris Hilton?
