Back to school - time to get your body back to its best

It seems that the start of every season brings about new worries about the appearance and general well being of your body. However, the return to school, in particular, offers a great opportunity for stay-at-home mums in particular to get back into a fitness regime that may have slipped while the children were off school.

With so many choices and prices out there, it is hard to know which gym, sport or class is right for you. Of course, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Being fit and well is not simply about pounding away for hours in the gym but it is about a healthy and strong state of mind.

The Galway Institute of Wellbeing is offering an accredited diploma course in reflexology. This offers the modern mum the option to become a qualified practitioner of reflexology in 14 months. The course will run for one weekend a month starting in September 2007. Reflexology elevates wellbeing, tackling health issues such as infertility, constipation, sleep disorders, fatigue, stress, headaches, back injuries and holistic wellbeing. This might be just what the doctor ordered after an intensive two months of summer time fun.

Top Klass Beauty and Hair Salon in Corrandulla also offers a sure and healthy way to shed those unwanted pounds. Hoodia Patches and Slimming Capsules are readily available from the salon. Prices start at €36 and proprietor, Laura herself has seen great results with this product. “I like to know all the products we are using in the salon, so I started on this product over a year ago and have really found that my energy levels have soared while my appetite is regulated,” Laura says.

The gym is the obvious choice for shedding those unwanted pounds, with joining prices ranging from €540 to €595 to €720 with registration fees from €100 in most gyms. The gyms in Galway have different opening hours and this should be a major deciding factor in choosing the correct gym for you. The average opening hours are from 7am until 10pm daily and from 9am until 9pm on the weekends. Peak hours in most facilities are between 5pm until 8pm.

Many gym packages now offer the full use of the pool facilities such as the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. This could be an added incentive to join, as it would vary your workout regime. A feature of all gyms is the beginners’ assessment on joining. There is a general fitness assessment, and then a unique programme is designed for you, according to your requirements and abilities.
