Life countdown

Image

Unless you've got St Peter on speed dial or you've been brain washed by a dangerous cult, mortality is a bummer. You spend your formative years dreaming about what you want to be when you grow up and your declining years wishing you could be young again. If you're not careful, it slips by all too easily; one day you're on your local fairway, the next you're on the heavenly stairway. But not for some.

Kevin Kelly, the first executive editor of influential internet magazine Wired and the man who has a technology CV bigger than the phone book has decided to make the most of his dwindling years. Leaving nothing to chance and in typically scientific fashion, Kevin has roughly calculated how many days he has left to live - at time of writing 8,500. He now tracks his 'countdown to death' on his computer's desktop.

Whilst most of us might find this morbid, Kevin is clearly a glass-half-full type of guy who hopes this 'will help him account for how he spends each precious 24 hours'. But, constant reminders of your own immortality and your imminent demise aren't everyone's cup of tea. After all, countdowns aren't really any fun unless Carol Vorderman is involved.

Armour of God pyjamas

In this world where sponsorship and branding are ever present, 'brought to you by' is a phrase we're all used to hearing. So, what a wholesome surprise to find a product that is not to 'brought to you by' a multi-national soft drinks snack food lifestyle conglomerate but instead, by Ephesians chapter six verse ten to 18. Yes, biblical inspiration has led to the creation of one bizarre product: the armour of God pyjamas.

Having read chapter and verse, an American mother had a Road to Damascus style perversion: 'God gave me the idea how wonderful it would be if all children could have the opportunity to put on a pair of pyjamas that symbolized the Armour of God?they will feel safe and secure during the night as they sleep'.

And, if these PJs don't keep heathens at bay, you could accessorise with the Armour of God blanket offering unprecedented Godly protection. Surprisingly popular, the Armour Of God PJs aren't yet available in Ireland, so there could be an opportunity for the shrewd religious zealot who wants some payback for all those prayers. Think about it - who wouldn't be willing to shell out some cash for a Sermon on the Mount slipper set?
