Very pleased with Irish welfare system E-mail
Written by Staff Reporter

Dear Editor,
I am Eastern European and have been living with my partner and two children in this country for a number of years. Since I came to Ireland I have been very pleased and satisfied with the social welfare system and, in particular, the good children's allowance.

I am entitled and in receipt of a rent allowance, a medical card and I receive my social welfare payment, which I collect at the local post office in Newcastle.

I have applied to the city council for social housing, which I am entitled to, and I have been advised that when I get my property, I will be entitled to get all my furniture and electrical goods.

My children and I have a very good lifestyle in this country and my worry is that with the downturn in the economy, we could become victims of government cuts. I hope this does not happen because the rest of the world should learn form the generosity and Christianity of the Irish people.

Thank you

Is this for real

I think the writer of this letter is trying to rise a negative reaction from gullible people, like the abandoned prams and taxi story.
Would be known on internet forums as a flamer

Dear Editor,
My work colleagues and i are appalled after reading the letter from the eastern european person who is so pleased with OUR welfare system.ENOUGH ALREADY
Although there are people who need assistance this appears to be some one taking advantage of the system, there are too many people irish included who abuse the system. Is there some reason that this person and their partner doesn't work?medical maybe or is it just that they're too lazy. After reading this letter we wonder why we bother working when they seem to be better off, with free medical care and benefits.
