Ulterior motive behind making roads one way E-mail

Dear Editor,
Not a week goes by but there is an item in a local paper to make College Road and Monivea Road a one-way bus lane.

As I read the item, I get a gut feeling that there is an ulterior motive behind making the roads one way.

Bear with me reader and look at the map of Galway City.

Quite often we have top brass politicians visit Galway and enjoy dinner in City Hall. As the brass cavalcade approaches Galway, they can use the bus lane on the Dublin Road. On passing the lights at Duggans corner, it would be about 20 minutes to City Hall. The short delay would whet their appetite.

Leaving the city in the evening would be a different problem, with all the workers also using the Dublin Road.

But if College Road and Monivea Road are one way bus lanes, all the driver have to do is turn left as the car exits City Hall, on to the bus lane and leg it down College Road, through the roundabout, up Monivea Road, turn on to Ballybane Road and out by Tom Hogan Motors, left turn at the Clinic.

No delay by traffic for the cavalcade with no thought for the inconvenience to the residents of College Road, Monivea Road and, in particular, the people living in Wellpark.

Reader just read the letter and give it some thought.

Thanking you,
Kenneth G Kelly,
