Some city playgrounds are nothing but trouble E-mail

Dear Editor,
My purpose in writing this letter is in relation to Councillor Mary Leahy's proposal to have a playground in the Ballyloughane Beach Area.

Sometime last year, Councillor Terry O'Flaherty informed me that the City Council has funding set aside for a playground in the Renmore area and that they were considering putting it in Ballyloughane. I expressed my views to her at that time and informed her that I would be very opposed to it going there, due to all my problems that these playgrounds bring to an area. She took my concerns on board and I thought that would be the end of it, until I read in the paper that the council were now going ahead with this without having any consultation with the residents that have lived here all of their lives. This is nothing short of arrogance.

Some of the playgrounds around the city bring nothing but trouble, particularly at night time when the young children are at home in their beds, and they are used for anti-social behaviour, I would also like to ask the question, how many members on Galway City Council live near a playground? None, I would safely say.

I am asking the City Council to reconsider the decision and please do not put the proposed playground in Ballyloughane. This area has had its share of disturbances over the years particularly with illegally parked caravans etc. This problem has now been resolved and we are enjoying some peace here at last. Councillors take heed.
