Renmore road system a 'shambles'
Page 2

Dear Editor,
As a long term resident of Renmore, I have been aware for many years of the 'Rat Race' that is Renmore Park and welcomed the change to turn it into one way traffic from the Dublin Road entrance to the Renmore Road.

Unfortunately, the whole thing is a shambles. The road has a small section at the Renmore Road entrance that is still two-way to enable shops to have their goods delivered. This encourages drivers to use the road as a two way street when clearly the road should be completely one way and the deliveries brought to the shops through the front doors or with trolleys via the back door.

The guards were managing the traffic for the first week or two, but at the wrong time of day. They were never there when the 'offenders' were using the road incorrectly. The temporary plastic barriers in place were a joke. Apart from making the road look like a war zone, they were constantly being moved out of position, making a mockery of their purpose. I even saw one barrier actually moved to a different street altogether.

The permanent barrier now in place is pathetic. It looks like something a child has made. Apart from the fact that cars using the two way stretch are parking in front of it, obscuring it from view, it serves no purpose, as it is ignored by drivers, or should I call them lawbreakers?

Cars are being driven down the one-way street and being parked on the road facing the wrong way, clearly indicating that they have driven down a one-way street.

Cars are turning into the road and waiting for a 'free run' before making a dash for the bottom, no doubt endangering the residents and children of Renmore.

I use this route three or four times a day travelling to my home and, at least, once a day I am met by a vehicle breaking the law and forcing me to pull aside to allow them to pass and be met by angry drivers who think they have a right to break the law because they always used to drive that way.

One evening I nearly had an accident when a 'lady driver', I use that term sarcastically, almost collided with me as she broke the speed limit in order to get to the end of the one-way road without being noticed. As our cars stopped, I asked her did she know it was one way. She snapped back that she had forgotten!
