No politicsIn Mr Conway's letter he invokes the idea of our children being exposed to politics in sport and we wish to state that politics are not a feature in any aspect of our community games participation. We feel that we have shown our children that it is wrong to go back on one's word and that 'winning at all costs' is not part of the Bearna/Furbo community games ethos. VolunteersThe Bearna/Furbo community games committee have worked hard and successfully for many years to support all sporting disciplines in their parish. We are all volunteers trying to help children and build our communities. The volunteer tag does not exempt us from displaying justice and fairness in all our dealings with all clubs and all people. We are very disappointed that the Galway County Games Committee decided to air this matter in public. We had no choice but to respond to this inaccurate account of the semi-final in order to protect the good name of the children and the voluntary committee.
Yours in fairness and sport, |
