Dear Editor, When the city council applied for the permit to run the operation, they forgot to mention that bus passengers were humans. As everybody knows, humans like to be treated like humans. When the passengers/humans boarded the bus at the race course, they were looking forward to a happy day's shopping, without the bother of looking for a parking space. As the bus arrived at the stop outside the Habitat store, it was lashing rain (06 and 07). The passengers/humans had to exit the bus and walk four to five hundred metres plus to the nearest shopping centre. They completed their shopping and walked back to catch the bus home, still raining. In time, they arrived home, soaked to the skin. Neighbours told neighbours, friends told friends of their experience. The Park and Ride was dead as last year's turkey in a matter of days. The crux of the problem was the bus stop outside the Habitat store. Is there a politician that is genuinely interested in promoting the Park and Ride? Would they have the bus stop at the Habitat store permanently cancelled, then arrange for the bus to travel down Foster Street, to the entrance to the Eyre Square Shopping Centre so that passengers/humans/voters can shop in peace and quiet as they are entitled to? If there is such a person, let them arrange the 2008 Park and Ride with the benefit of the passengers/humans/voters in mind. Readers should look forward to the expected improvement in 2008, but do not hold your breath; you are in Galway!
Yours faithfully, |
