Dear Editor,
The current situation in Gaza has been brought about by Hamas and its terrorist activities. Since Israel left Gaza in 2005, instead of building on Israelis move to peace, Hamas has fired over 7,000 rockets into Israel, killing and injuring innocent people whose only crime is being Jewish and wanting to live in Israel. Israel only makes up three per cent of the land in the Middle East.

What has Hamas done to improve the lives of its own people? First, it has killed hundreds of its own people when it overthrew Fatah from Gaza. It has shut down newspapers and arrested journalists who don't share their fundamentalist views. It has closed down internet cafes, banned alcohol, while anyone who doesn't share there views has been arrested or disappeared. The Christian population has dwindled in areas under control by Hamas because they have been persecuted by the Islamic fundamentalists.

Hamas continues to send suicide bombers into Israel. Only two weeks ago a suicide bomber killed two innocent people in a shop when he blew himself up. Last Thursday night a terrorist killed eight innocent students who were in a religious building studying, by firing over 500 bullets in a library. Israel has said it regrets the death of innocent people, but it has the right to protect its own people. It has said that if Hamas stops firing rockets into Israel from Gaza, it will stop its military response.

For peace to prosper, you need two partners who want peace. Hamas refuses to recognise Israel and calls for its destruction. Israel has proven it can make peace with its neighbours Egypt and Jordan. If the Palestinians want peace, they have to choose leaders who will be brave enough to bring peace.

Yours hopefully,
Name and address with Editor
