Dear Editor,
I write in relation to comments made by RTE racing pundit Ted Walsh on national airwaves recently in which he moaned about the cost of accommodation in Galway hostelries during race week.

I was amazed by the U turn that our Mayor Councillor Padraig Conneely made when he defended this industry.

Over the past few years this man, Councillor Conneely, has been consistently negative towards our city and just twelve short months ago he was making statements to the local and national media advising people if they come to Galway that there was poison in the water. Good publicity for a man who as a part-time public representative is picking up €40,000 a year For a man who is persistent in his attack on City officials isn't he getting paid well but then any publicity is good, U-turn or no U-turn.

His comments had an impact on the tourists coming to our city; arising from this I received many cancellations in my B&B. I am aware that two other Irish towns (Ennis and Carlow) had the same problem with the water, but the local representatives in those areas did not take on a self-promotion exercise by running to the media with this issue.

Sincerely,
M Murphy
