With reference to Carl Sweeney's letter (Wednesday 9 January), as a non-medical person I am not qualified to enter into a debate on the merits of the various reports that have been published in recent years dealing with the link between abortion and breast cancer.

The point of my previous letter (Wednesday 19 December) was to highlight an article called 'The Breast Cancer Epidemic' which was published in The Actuary, a professional magazine for actuaries in Britain. This article produced statistical models showing that the increasing rates of abortion and breast cancer run parallel and are highly correlated. The fact that this report was written for the purposes of life insurance forecasting and could possibly be a determining factor in assessing life insurance premia in the future renders its content compelling and surely Mr Sweeney would agree that this information should be available to women.
