Dear Editor,
Are we the people of Galway and our politicians, tourism chiefs and decision makers truly affected by the tragic death of young Manuela Riedo? If so, then what better way to honour her memory than to work tirelessly to make Galway the safest place in Ireland.

Awareness, action and shared community responsibility is called for. Community groups, schools, colleges, businesses, Gardaí, the HSE, City Council etc. must join together for positive action.

Good, old-fashioned gardaí on the streets at night would be an obvious starting point. Let's hope this tragedy was a tipping point for the ongoing violence and fear experienced by the women over Galway over the last few years. Let us remember Manuela through action.

James B Ryan,
College Rd,
Galway
