Dear Editor, While I understand there is a long housing list and people need housing, I take exception to how they are allocating them. I have no objection whatsoever to families who will integrate and respect their neighbours being allocated a house. This letter is not about you! It is the other portion that I know for a fact are going into the Housing Dept firing abuse at council officials on a daily basis that are getting the prime properties at our expense. This absolutely infuriates me. It is wrong. Residents don't have any say in who is put amongst them. The council don't give a fiddlers. We are left with huge mortgages and the possibility that our areas will be turned into ghettos. This is happening throughout the city. In my case, 2008 may see me having to sell up before my home devalues any further because of this policy. Mark my word council officials, in years to come you will have problems on your hands. At the moment you just want to shorten the list and don't care how you do it or who you hurt in the process. I agree with last week's letter writer who wrote in on the bin waivers. What is the point in paying your taxes! How about in 2008 myself and my partner quit our jobs, squeeze every last penny out of the system, and put ourselves on the housing list. We'll probably get a mansion in a few years time and have to pay next to nothing for it! Marvellous country isn't it! Galway City Council, start looking after all of your citizens. Your housing policy is not looking after us hardworking taxpayers who are keeping you all in jobs. Name and address is with the Editor. |
