Galway is not a pedestrian friendly place to live E-mail

Dear Editor,
I would like to agree with David Biggins' letter (Wednesday 14 May) re motorists' disregard for red lights in Galway.

When the light turns red at least one, sometimes two or three, car speeds through while the green man is on. This happens to me on a daily basis at the Taylors Hill/Threadneedle Road junction and at the Quincentennial Bridge/Newcastle Road junction.

I would also like to point out that when the green man at the Threadneedle Road junction does eventually go off (it takes two light changes for this to happen), it lasts for a very short time. I'm saying this as a young mobile person who finds it difficult to cross the road in that time; I imagine it must be impossible for an old person.

After a recent holiday in London I was shocked to find that motorists actually stop at the zebra crossings. In short, I feel Galway is not a pedestrian friendly place to live and that when crossing the road one is taking their life into their own hands.

Regards,
Laurie Clinton
