Dear Editor,

And so once again, Valentine's Day is upon us, - that day of the year when couples express their love in some over the top commercial fashion and everyone smiles and is happy for all those that are lucky in love.
But what about those that are not so lucky? For so many people, Valentine's Day is the loneliest day of the year. Why is it, that in Irish society we exclude single people, particularly those over 30 from everything? Excluded from the 'club', single people in their thirties and forties are like kids looking in the toy shop window at all the other kids with their toys; we are the ones not invited to the party, but yet can't ignore the fact that the party is on as all round us are reminders.

Life can be cruel and depressing, as I sit here, all washed up at 39, staring at my credit card, wondering just who will I send two dozen roses to (that will not send them back!) and wishing that it would be Thursday.

Happy Valentine's Day.
