Cease hero-worshipping of losing teams E-mail

Dear Editor,
Although I have never met the man, I agree with Cllr Billy Cameron's viewpoint that losing teams, like Galway Minors, should not be given a civic reception.

I attended the match in Croke Park, as I have done since the 50s, and was bitterly disappointed with Galway's failure. How people say the better team lost is rubbish; it's the team scoring most at the end of the game that are best.

Galway had a terrible goalie who should have been replaced early on after his first let in. They did great; from a five point deficit to go two points ahead but eased up in the last six minutes to let the Cats in.

They also missed two open goals; one of which was a 'fresh air' from RTÉ's Man of the Match, Niall Burke.

I also think that going up by train from Athenry on the morning of the match is unwise. Both Mayo and ourselves should cease the hero-worshipping of our losing teams.

Mise le meas,
Martias Ó Gormaile
