Amnesty does not deserve human rights title E-mail

Dear Editor,
In response to Paul Grealish's letter (Letters 22.08.07), we wish to point out that abortion is not a religious issue, but a fundamental human rights issue.

People’s opinions on abortion and other issues may be informed by their faith and that is their prerogative. After all, freedom of religion is a fundamental freedom. However, the point Galway For Life made which Mr Grealish had difficulty with (Letters 25.07.07) was that as a human rights organisation, Amnesty has betrayed the vision of its founders by deciding to support abortion, the taking of innocent human life. It no longer deserves and should no longer seek to be called a human rights organisation.

Eilís Grealy,

Ozanam House,
St. Augustine Street,
Galway
