Over the coming weeks, Leaving Certificate students will be receiving their mock exam results. Students should be aware that the mock exams are a vital factor in the Leaving Certificate, as the exams prepare students for their final exams.
The first thing students should learn from sitting their mock exams is the importance of timing. Students may have run out of time in their mock exams and failed to answer a question as a result of poor allocation of time to each question. This is something that each student will need to work on, as they cannot afford for this to happen in June. Students should go through each paper and determine how many minutes they should be spending on each question and ensure they stick to that in June.
Also, if a student got a poor result, they should bear in mind that there are 14 weeks until Leaving Certificate 2014. Therefore, there is still time left to put in a serious effort and increase their performance in June.
Usually Leaving Certificate students will receive higher points than their mocks results however, this is not a given. Students will need to commit to their studies. Putting a structure in place is vital for Leaving Certificate students if they want to achieve their potential. Having a study routine and understanding their learning style will put them on the road to success.
Students who do not have a proper study schedule in place will often find themselves only studying subjects that they enjoy and ignoring subjects that they dislike. This will not serve them well in June, as college courses are offered on the basis of CAO points, which are calculated by scoring your best six subjects. Completing a timetable and allowing adequate timing for all subjects is critical. Furthermore, incorporating a revision day each week will also serve students well.
