A two day harmonica course followed by an open air concert will take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June at the Forge Arts Centre on New Road, off Mill Street, in Galway City.
For the course, all levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced. The cost for the two day course is €55 and takes place from 10am –12noon and 2pm-4pm on both days.
The course will teach participants everything from the basics to advanced techniques from master harmonica players. It will also teach participants how to play traditional Irish/blues music on the harp (i.e. harmonica), rehearse and record in the studio, and repair and maintain your harp in the workshop.
An open air concert will take place on the Sunday 18 June in the yard of the Forge from 7-9pm.
The workshops are being run by Maciek Zaworonek and Cathal Johnson. Both musicians have extensive performance experience, with Sharon Shannon describing Maciek as “one of my favourite musicians in the whole country”. Speaking about Cathal, Andy Irvine said, “Cathal is great, after all this time, to find a harmonica technician here in Ireland! I’m delighted to give my full endorsement to his work, repairing and tuning harmonicas.”
