Former All-Ireland winning manager with Portumna, Johnny Kelly was yesterday named as the new Galway U-21 hurling manager for the 2013 season.
Kelly, who took control of the Galway hurling development squad last year, replaces Anthony Cunningham, Mattie Kenny and Tom Helebert in the role.
The Tribesmen lost out in the 2012 All-Ireland final against Kilkenny and Kenny acted as a selector to that side.
Kelly led Portumna to back to back All-Ireland club hurling titles in 2008 and 2009, but stepped down for the role last year.
He was appointed to the role at the specially convened hurling board meeting on Monday night, and was the only nomination for the post.
