The Saving Grace Trust and friends are teaming up with GoBus.ie and heading to Croagh Patrick again this 22 August to raise much needed funds for Grace Kenneally.
Grace Kenneally is ten years old and from Galway City. Since Grace was just five years old, she has been fighting Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive children’s cancer.
In July 2014, the Saving Grace Trust started to raise funds in an attempt to save Grace from this rare disease with 100 per cent of funds raised going towards current and future medical expenses. The ultimate goal is to get Grace to the US for a better treatment since she has stopped responding to the chemotherapy administered here in Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Grace recently had a Stem Cell Transplant with high dose chemotherapy and had an extended stay in isolation in Crumlin but unfortunately is still not in remission from the cancer, as had been hoped. Grace will travel to Royal Marsden Hospital in London in the coming weeks to have the next steps determined.
In August 2014, the first “big” event for Saving Grace was ‘Climb for Curls’, a walk of the pilgrim mountain, Croagh Patrick. GoBus.ie sponsored the transport, driver, and climb participants too! With a full bus, GoBus.ie and Saving Grace headed for Westport, where, with support from a group of excellent supporters, the day raised a total of over €12,000, one of the biggest events to date.
Overwhelmed with the result and a great day out, the trust is thrilled to be able to repeat the event this year with the support of GoBus.ie. The stream of colour up the mountain last year with the bright pink and purple t-shirts of participants and the unusual sight of GoBus.ie on the country roads of Co. Galway and Mayo made it a really special day out for everyone involved.
Grace is still not yet in remission and she has lost her hair now more than four times, but she still always has a smile on her face and continues to inspire people around her. Grace will never give up and the Saving Grace Trust ask you to join them for a fun day out while raising funds for Grace, who has spent half her life in and out of hospital fighting this disease.
To date, the Saving Grace Trust has reached €200,000 with fundraising efforts and with this event and others throughout the summer, the final push is on to reach the initial target of €250,000.
