Soundscape, a music programme for people with intellectual disabilities, and local gamelan group ‘Gamelan na Gaillimhe’ will be joined by some of the finest gamelan musicians in the UK and a dancer from Indonesia for a performance of Javanese music, dance and theatre at The Ardilaun Hotel on Sunday, 18 November.
The gamelan is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument and this concert will feature the Soundscape gamelan instruments, a collection of 20 bronze gongs, metallophones and drums forged in Java in 2010.
Soundscape, Brothers of Charity Services Galway, with students from NUI Galway, will also perform a unique shadow puppet play ‘The Ramayana’. Their own contemporary version of the ancient epic Hindu tale will feature live music and sound effects performed on the Soundscape gamelan.
This event is sponsored by The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ambassador to Ireland and the UK is scheduled to travel from London for the show.
This event will take place on Sunday, 18 November in the Ardilaun Hotel at 2pm. For more information, contact Jonathan Reynolds at Soundscape on 091-721474 or 086-8315189, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
