An evening for members of the Travelling Community who are interested in attending NUI Galway will take place in the city next Wednesday.
NUI Galway Students’ Union will host the information evening at 7pm on Wednesday 16 January in the Arts Building of NUI Galway.
Speakers will include representatives from NUI Galway’s Access Office and Mature Students Office, the Students’ Union and The Galway Traveller Movement. Students from the Traveller Community will also share their experiences of third level education.
“This event is aimed at members of the Traveller Community in second level education who are thinking of progressing to third level, as well as travellers who are thinking about returning to education,” said Claire Mc Callion, NUI Galway Students’ Union Equality Officer.
“According to the National Plan for Equality of Access to Higher Education, produced by the HEA, the number of travellers attending third level education remains a tiny minority, with most Traveller children not completing Second Level Education. We hope that information sessions like this will help to reverse that trend and improve access to education for all members of society.”
